Boyu Chen is a cinematographer from Chengdu, China, currently based in Los Angeles. He is an active member of the Australian Cinematographers Society (ACS).
He studied visual arts at the University of Melbourne and earned an MFA in Film Production with an emphasis in Cinematography from Chapman University, where he was mentored by Johnny Jensen, ASC, and Michael Grady.
His cinematography focuses on emotionally driven visual storytelling, atmospheric lighting, and images shaped by contrast, texture, and shadow. His experience as a gaffer further informs his approach, bringing precision, collaboration, and a practical sensitivity to light.
Outside of filmmaking, Boyu is a dedicated League of Legends player whose favorite champion is Jax.
